LIKE us on Facebook Chapter One - The King It’s not easiest being the tallest on the bored and shy of the pawns the weakest as well. As the king your existence is the most important. In many households today the existence of the king; the dad has become less important, an afterthought or an optional extra. Sadly many families live without this kingly roll. Has the king done this to himself or has the playing field just become too big, to overwhelming for him. My experience has shown that it’s a little of everything. Sometimes a sense of helplessness creeps into your body, slowly overtaking it cell by cell. Changing the very fibre of that you have believed you have become, and one day you wake up to find you actually believe you are helpless. Whether life is as fast as a speeding train or as slow as the morning dew we all need to feel a sense of value. Whether it be at home in the safety of our playing board, or at work on the battle field, or with the way we deal with the actual players of the game. If we don't have a value, if we feel helpless then to the pawns we go. It takes a strong inner will to defy the player and move your own way, and few is the king that can do it. In fact on a chess board the king spends most of his time in fear, always on the run, always looking for a way out, a way to survive. In life it’s much the same. The family is a close knit unit where the queen and the kids are the most important. The dad kingpin spends most of his time in fear, hoping for the sake of the game he can provide and bring happiness. On many occasions the queen my offer some sound advice in an annoying and irritating fashion called moaning or whining. Now to the king this is not needed, not for his ego or stress. To illustrate: place yourself on a motorcycle riding along a little more than the legal speed limit and in front of you is an intersection full of traffic. All sorts of bells and alarms start going off in your ears warning you of upcoming danger and if you keep on the current path calamity is almost assured. Common sense tells us to slow down, be safe! Yet when we hear that as a man from our queen we don’t like it. No king is king alone. He needs a kingdom and subjects. A queen is the top most ranking subject in the kingdom, and sometimes while the king is running around trying to protect himself he forgets to look far enough ahead and see that calamity is coming. When you ‘the king’ hear the warning bells ‘the queen’ telling you to slow down immediate action needs to be taken, a different strategy calculated and even maybe a new playing field instituted.
